The Thing
Late Night Thrills
John Carpenter | US 1982 | 108 min | OVMit: Kurt Russell, Wilford Brimley, Keith David, Richard Masur, T.K. Carter
The story follows a group of American researchers, led by 80s everyman Kurt Russell, in Antarctica who encounter a parasitic extraterrestrial life-form that assimilates, then imitates, other organisms. This results in a tense showdown, as the group succumbs to paranoia and refusal to trust each other, knowing that at any moment one of them could be The Thing.
It’s one of the great sci-fi horror films of the 1980s, that was completely trashed when it was originally released. Seriously, The New York Times called it „instant junk“. It’s hard to believe now, as the film was such a huge influence on everything from Stranger Things to both of Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs and The Hateful Eight.
Don’t miss all the tension, suspense, and terror of John Carpenter’s THE THING! Rob Bottin’s brilliant creature effects work is worth the price alone!
